Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 29, 1872

Overview

A telegram from R. says he is leaving Berlin for Weimar, and the relief is that the earlier warning did not concern him personally. Loldi remains seriously unwell, so the narrator spends the day nursing her and keeping close to her side. In the evening R. writes that matters are satisfactory, if not ideal, and that Feustel has unexpectedly become a useful ally. The day closes with letters sent to R., Frau Wesendonck, and Pohl.

Monday, January 29:

Telegram from R. in Berlin: he is just (8 a.m.) leaving for Weimar. “Business settled” so the warning was not on his account! Loldi seriously unwell; I put her to bed and stay beside her.

In the evening a letter from R.; everything seems satisfactory, if not exactly brilliant. Our conquest is Feustel, who took R. by surprise for the third time, came into his room, and is being helpful in everything. In the evening I write to R., also to Frau Wesendonck and Pohl.
