Wednesday, August 25:
I write with a full heart to Richter early in the morning, pointing out to him that it does not matter at all what his feelings are toward me, but if he does not sincerely repent having allowed himself to be turned against R. through gossip, it will be impossible for him ever again to have anything to do with R. R. had indeed already indicated this to him, without himself holding out any such hope. R. takes me by surprise as I am writing and, after he had read me the two letters (Richter’s and his), I read him mine, which touches him, and he says he will demand it back if Richter does not respond in the manner it requests.
Arrival of Schuré. Nice article by Brassin in the Indépendance Belge—it is sad that the only straightforward and honest article about this splendid time has to be written in French! R. writes a report to the King, who is now staying in Paris! (Not Paris—Reims, the place where kings are crowned!) Our wedding day.
