Walküre was going well overall, but Herr Betz openly resisted his role and even laughed during applause, disrupting the performance so badly that the audience could scarcely listen. R. then asked the King to award the Order of Saint Michael to him and Herr Niemann, and the request was granted.

Die Walküre goes very well, except that Herr Betz is quite openly rebelling against his role; he laughs out loud when there is applause and the majority of the audience calls for quiet, so that one cannot listen. R. requests from the King the Order of Saint Michael for him and Herr Niemann, which is granted.
