Content

Wednesday, January 17:

Today, to my great joy, I heard R. laughing loudly; soon afterward he brought me Nohl's book, in which there is an account of Tomaschek's visit to B[eethoven] and B.'s statement about Meyerbeer: B. describing M.'s main characteristic as a lack of courage.

In the evening we read Thucydides with mounting intellectual enjoyment.
