The house is full of callers, including Feustel checking on a letter to the king and a ballet master whom Richard has recommended for Lohengrin in Turin. Later they review the festival performances and measure how much of it still stands up to scrutiny, while Feustel reports continued interest in the productions.

Many visits. Herr Feustel anxious to know whether R. has written to the King, which he did a week ago. Ballet master Fricke on his way to Turin as an international producer. R. has recommended him for a production of Lohengrin.

In the evening we went through all our memories of the festival performances: what stands up to even the simplest of examinations? Betz, Brandt, Doepler, Niemann, the Bruckner brothers, etc., etc.? R. reads Machiavelli. Herr Feustel told us he had received several inquiries regarding the festival performances.
