Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 7, 1869

Overview

Cosima is weak and Richard very unwell, alarming her by speaking of securing Siegfried's future in case of sudden death before reassuring her. A lively family lunch and walk to painter Zund's house do them good. In the evening she writes Doris Brockhaus to request Uncle Adolph's picture.

Sunday, November 7:

Feeling very weak, and R. unfortunately very unwell. He talks of assuring Siegfried’s future in the event of sudden death! Noticing my dismay, he says, “I do not believe it; things only happen to me when I believe in them, and most deeply, as for example with the King of Bavaria, when I really expected everything.”

Family lunch, all well and lively. After lunch, walked as far as the painter Zünd’s house. It does much good.

In the evening I write to Doris Brockhaus and ask her to send me the picture of Uncle Adolph.
