Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 26, 1869

Overview

A cheerful atmosphere returns as Richard works again and jokes that the Norns' rope is finally tangled. Letters from Judith and Konigsberg, news of Meistersinger there, an unpleasing Berlin portrait, and R. Pohl's arrival fill the day. A visit to Countess Bassenheim and a powerful new collection of Durer pictures leave a strong artistic impression.

Friday, November 26:

Cheerful atmosphere, R. again in working vein: "At least the Norns' rope has now got into a tangle."

Letter from Judith, another from Königsberg; Die Meistersinger is to be presented there. A new picture from Berlin very unpleasing, makes him look like Mendelssohn and Meyerbeer!

Arrival of R. Pohl. Visited Countess Bassenheim.

Incomparable impression from a new collection of Dürer pictures.
