Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 12, 1870

Overview

Cosima passes another restless night amid continuing concern for the sick children and teething Fidi. News that the King has ordered Die Walküre shocks her and extinguishes her desire to work. The oppressive atmosphere and emotional blow leave the evening empty of reading or consolation.

Wednesday, January 12:

Again very restless in the night; the children also still unwell, concern, too, about Fidi, who is teething. Read in the newspaper that the King has commanded Die Walküre. A great shock, the urge to resume work utterly killed. On top of that the air very unpleasant. Read nothing in the evening.
