Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 12, 1870

Overview

Cosima rises early to work on the birthday folder while letters from Esser and Pusinelli bring friendly recognition, including kindness toward her. Fidi’s lingering hoarseness worries her, though the children provide bright moments through Boni’s French fairy tale and Loldi’s image of the moon. Wagner remains unwell as talk of the plebiscite occupies the household.

Thursday, May 12:

Got up very early because of the folder. Nice letters from the former conductor Esser and R.’s old friend Pusinelli, who mentions me in the most friendly way. Worry about Fidi, whose hoarseness persists. Boni surprises me with a nice fairy tale, quite well told in French. Loldi says, “The moon has a cheek missing.” R. not very well. (Much talk about the plebiscite.)
