Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Franz Liszt

February 28, 1853 · Zurich

Overview

Wagner anxiously asks Liszt to confirm whether the parcel of Ring copies sent on February 11 ever reached him. He had hoped it would arrive before the 16th and is distressed that Liszt's last letter made no mention of it, since that has spoiled a particular pleasure for him.

Letter

Best of friends,

Please let me have two words to say whether you have received a parcel sent from here on February 11 and containing several copies of my new poem, The Ring of the Nibelung. I had hoped that it would reach you before the 16th, but your letter makes no mention of it. I am very anxious about this, because it has spoiled a great pleasure for me. Therefore, one word, please!
