Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Franz Liszt

September 29, 1857 · Zurich

Overview

Writing to Liszt, Wagner reproaches him for failing to come without any explanation. He adds that Hans and Cosima have become very dear to him during their visit and are leaving with a transcript of Tristan that he wrote while Bülow was there.

Letter

And so you did not come, dearest Franz! Without a word of explanation to me, simply, silently, did not come!

Hans and Cosima have grown very dear to me. I am very melancholy at seeing them leave me to-day. They are taking with them a transcript of Tristan which I have been writing while he was here.
